Day 13: “A Day of two halves”

With the field of runners beginning to resemble an accident and emergency ward with the amount of band aid and tape on show, we headed to Aurillac; the Col de Legal standing in our way.
My legs felt like lead weights for the 1st 15km and as my tendons throbbed as we started to climb i thought this could be a very long day. Up, up and up, I eventually reached the top and the aid station at 38km. I left looking like a hamster, with cheeks crammed full of food and started the 26km descent. Within 10 minutes I was grinning like a Cheshire cat as I picked off runners with my newly acquired chocolate spread, banana and Haribo fuelled legs freewheeling to the finish down the mountain roads to the sound of cowbells all over the hillsides.
What a difference half a pound of kids sweets, the smell of the finish, mmm and a bit of change in gradient can do… maybe i should eat Haribo for breakfast tomorrow…??

Snow on the mountains this morning: my fingers numb as the cold penetrates the gloves, heavy breathing fogging my glasses as I work hard to climb the hills, big puffy pants to stop my legs freezing,
