Day 7: “From Sunflowers to Chateau’s”

Another short stage of 58km, beginning with a beautiful sunrise as we ran between miles of sunflower fields with the flower heads all drooped from the weight of seed. Past the imposing Chateau at Montreuil-Bellay the quiet roads flattened out till we joined 4km of trail 5.5km from the sundrenched village finish of Monts sur Guesnes.
The plan today was to run as in training because the slower tempo still leaves me with fat knees; maybe getting off them ASAP again is the best tact. Initial results are okay, the morning will be the true test when we head for Angles sur l’anglin in the Poiteau province on stage 8.
