Tuesday night intervals
By John Hampshire on 24th August
John has been leading an interval session on Tuesday nights - all are welcome and it is quite popular.
The sessions are set so they are suitable for everyone and anyone - that really does mean anyone from someone taking an 45 minutes to do 5km to someone looking to run 2:30 for a marathon. People take from it what they want, missing efforts if appropriate or in some cases doing extra where such eccentricities dictate…
Here is a list of what is happening over the next 4 weeks, any questions can be put in the comments below or ideally on the forum, which can be reached via Tuesday intervals forum or via the link on the top navigation bar. The more people that attend the better this will be so I hope you find it interesting and decide to pop along.
Meet at Craven Swimming Pool entrance at 7pm on Tuesdays and then we jog down to the Skipton Rugby club together where we do the sessions. The format and meeting point will be the same in the winter but with different places for the sessions - hills, etc.
Tuesday 23rd August: 400 metre efforts in relay style so 3 groups, ‘slower’ and ‘faster’ in opposite directions turning when they meet and ‘intermediate speed’ do a full lap. Recoveries while your team mates are running. This will end up as 10 x 400m with approximately 90 seconds recoveries.
Tuesday 30th August: Gerschler fartlek: 2 sets of 1 minute efforts with recoveries varying from 90 seconds to 15 seconds in 15 second increments. This will end up as 14 x 1 minute with varying recovery.
Tuesday 6th September: Paarlauf session - in teams of two, 6 x 600m then 6 x 200m with recoveries while your partner is running
Tuesday 13th September: Pyramid session: 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 4 min, 3 min, 2 min, 1 min with 1 minute recoveries
That’s the plan, I hope you can make all the sessions but if not, then do the ones you are interested in. I will aim to make the sessions suitable for 5k/10k/half marathon type racing.
Post any questions on the forum or ask when you see me.

Thanks for making these sessions a success and see you soon,
John

Snow on the mountains this morning: my fingers numb as the cold penetrates the gloves, heavy breathing fogging my glasses as I work hard to climb the hills, big puffy pants to stop my legs freezing,
